With new updates being applied to Epic Games’ hit battle royale extravaganza, Fortnite, new elements to the game are being added and gameplay is rapidly changing with every update. As most players will find out after just a few matches, building is essential to the game, which makes Fortnite different from all the other battle royale games currently on the market. Here are 5 tips on how to build better and how to mine faster to help ensure your victory.

5. Farming Walls

You gotta walk before you can run and you gotta mine before you can build. When there aren’t any stone deposits nearby, other good resources to farm from are simply buildings and walls.

However when mining, don’t mine head-on against the face of the wall.

Mine from the side or edges

This creates a very thin area for the sweet-spot to be placed and thus can be hit virtually every time.

4. Don’t Rely on Stairs

Build around yourself even when you think no one’s watching. When you want to engage someone you see running in an open field, it’s tempting to simply build stairs and start popping off shots. But don’t. Build a wall, attach stairs and fill-in the box around you. This ensures that you can simply duck in under cover if a shot comes from behind you or from the sides.

3. Overbuild Your Blind Spots

Let’s say you’re in your base, but there’s an enemy to the left and an enemy to the right. You can’t safely engage one enemy without worrying about fire from the other side. What do you do?

Overbuild the wall of your base to the left or right side.

This provides a wall of cover from one of the enemy bases. You are then free to engage the other base without worrying about your blind spot.

2. Stronger Foundations

The most common and fastest to mine material in Fortnite: Battle Royale is wood. Thus, this is the material most players are in excess of when compared to stone or metal. However, when building a base in the end stages of the game, build the bottom of your base with the strongest material you have and then switch to wood at the top. Why? Wood is weaker and easier to break. A bottom floor of your base built with wood needs only a couple grenades or a few rounds of an AR to demolish. A foundation of metal on the other hand is harder to get rid of. Usually you’ll have enough time to build another anchor or jump down from your base if opponents are attacking a metal foundation.

1. How to Farm Metal Faster (GLITCH)

While the above tips are universal for any platform, this glitch has only been found and tested on the PS4. When farming metal from steel carts/containers, the process is incredibly slow and tedious and gives you a small amount of metal.

Here’s a way to make it faster.

First, mine the cart head-on facing the middle of it’s wall. Then position yourself parallel to it so that the sweet spot hovers in mid-air ideally not contacting the metal wall at all. If done correctly, you can hit the sweet spot continuously and it won’t change positions.

NOTE: This also works on walls, or very large trees.
